KML data created in QGIS loses attributes in Google MyMaps

Here's the problem and solution. My question is, is there a QGIS patch to fix it so I don't have to text edit kml files? Essentially, the QGIS export uses a SimpleData tag to define columns which MyMaps does not seem to recognize.
